Generally, a post light is installed on gateposts, larger fence posts, and low garden walls or around raised flowerbeds. Some will spread light all around whilst others may direct the light towards the ground making them perfect for lighting pathways or a garden feature such as a pond or specimen plant. The electrical cable will always enter an outdoor post light through the bottom of the light fitting.
The cable must be installed before the fitting to ensure that everything is weatherproof and safe. Spend a little time at the planning stage to ensure that you get the right type of fitting in the right place. That way, the electrical cables can be installed in exactly the right location prior to fitting the lights.
